Here at Sweet Grass Acupuncture & Wellness, we provide a place where our neighbors can find accessible and safe acupuncture, herbal medicine and complementary care. We have a deep sense of obligation and respect for the folks in Wyoming’s smaller communities. And we believe they deserve to be cared for in the best manner possible. By explaining our processes in a language that is easily understandable, you can feel safe and educated. By structuring our hours around your needs we can accommodate the working population, the moms and the over-booked (even during hunting season!)
Your health is our most important goal. That is why we focus on bringing heart and compassion to the healthcare environment. Our acupuncture and herbal medicine practices are care oriented, with one-on-one treatments, personalized solutions and a focus on creating outreach opportunities to other outer lying populations.
Acupuncture is a safe and effective form of medicine that can be used in conjunction with conventional practices. In simple terms, acupuncture uses a set of specific points around the body that when needled increase blood flow and decrease inflammation. Acupuncture also interacts with the central nervous system, immune system and the HP axis of the brain, which controls endorphins, neurotransmitters and hormones. When it comes to treatment plans acupuncture looks to treat the root of your health problem, not just the symptoms. We take into account habits, diet and history. This method can lead to fast and long lasting results in an average of 6-8 weeks for the cost of an average monthly grocery bill.
Acupuncture is especially effective for functional disorders. Functional disorders are when the body is out of balance but western standards have no specific treatment or the treatment is ineffective. This can often leave the patient with little or no choices to improve their quality of life. Some of the most common disorders are insomnia, digestive issues and stress management. Acupuncture is also highly effective at treating pain and injuries.
Traditional Chinese medicine uses various plants and their natural medicinal properties, much like your grandmother would drink mint tea for indigestion or give you honey for a sore throat. Each herb has a chemical makeup and like modern pharmaceuticals they can reduce inflammation, balance hormones and be anti-bacterial. The difference between herbs and pharmaceuticals is that when used together Chinese herbs work synergistically, balancing each others actions and producing little to no harmful side effects. A specific formula might include 3 to 30 different ingredients such as roots, bark, twigs, dried leaves, seeds and flowers. At home, the formulas can be taken in pre-made pill form or in a granular form, where you mix with water and drink like a tea.
Herbs are a very cost effective way to prolong your treatments. The average formula is between $18 – $25. They mirror the actions of your acupuncture treatment treating the root of your problem on a daily basis. When consumed, it helps your body to establish a new healthier dynamic.
What is something that we do everyday and love? EAT!
What is something that we do everyday and effects our health? EAT!
Working with your diet is one of the most effective and affordable ways to change your health. By adding or subtracting just a few things one can see big changes. And it doesn’t mean popping another pill. It was said in ancient times the best doctors treated their patient through diet only and got the best results.
At Sweet Grass Acupuncture & Wellness we see nutrition as just another great way to get you healthy. As part of your care we can look at your diet from a different perspective, make suggestions of what to add (or subtract) and include it in your specific treatment plan. We even have a few great great new recipes to try out. Most importantly we know that every person is different and has varied needs. That’s why what worked for your friend, might not have worked for you. Again, this is what is great about our medicine, we treat the whole picture not just the symptom. We are also happy to work within your lifestyle, habits and budget to come up with the best dietary solutions for you.
Along with acupuncture, herbal medicines and nutrition there are the other forms of treatment used in traditional Chinese medicine. Applied together, they form an all encompassing system to treat the body.
Moxibustion is the application of heat to the same specific areas or points on the body that are used in acupuncture. Moxibustion is another integral part of our system of medicine. Moxa is also commonly called mugwort, and is obtained from the herbal plant ‘Arternisia Vulgaris’. There are different forms of moxa which will be customized for your needs. Moxa can be used to treat arthritis, injuries, digestive issues and OBGYN issues.
Cupping is another form of treatment that we use in our medicine. It is used in many different cultures through the world. Quite simply, we use inverted cups applied with suction along the skin and muscles to do a “reverse” massage. The suction of the cup pulls the muscle tissue up and can relieve pain, stiffness and soreness. It can also be great for stress reduction and preventing colds.
Acupuncture has a history that dates back over 2,000 years, but at Sweet Grass Acupuncture we want to make it your modern medicine. We strive to convey all of our processes in an understandable language that makes you feel comfortable and safe.
Living in Wyoming comes with many perks (fishing, sunsets, mountains, the Pokes) but with those wide open spaces often comes a long drive to receive the care you need. We believe that alternative medicine should be available to everyone, especially in rural communities. That is why we are dedicated to being in the heart of the state. If you or someone you know needs care where there are no acupuncturists, contact us and we will be happy to travel your way or find someone to help.
We are passionate and dedicated to serving patients who have cancer. While we don’t offer treatments to cure or treat cancer itself, we offer care for those experiencing the effects of cancer. This includes treating chemo-therapy side effects and stress/anxiety relief. Please contact us for details and look for future offerings like community acupuncture evenings and cancer care packages.
